Planning my first post-pandemic trip was a big
deal for me. Knowing that I would be traveling solo, I was feeling a little nervous about getting "back out there" while also fending for myself. But there is safety in numbers, right? So, to help me re-enter the world, I decided to join a Rick Steves group tour to Belgium and Holland that would visit Ghent, Bruges, Delft, and Amsterdam. In September 2022, I joined up with 25 like-minded travelers in Ghent, Belgium, to embark on the Heart of Belgium and Holland in 11 Days tour. |
This was my second time traveling with a Rick Steves group tour (my first was the Best of Paris in 7 Days tour back in 2016). And, like most people who join Rick's tours, I had loved watching his travel specials on PBS back in the day. Rick's easy-going style and desire to enjoy European towns the way a local would appealed to my sensibility . . . and wanderlust. Having had an amazing experience on my first trip with Rick Steve, I knew I was 'in safe hands and would have another amazing and memorable trip.

Hello! This is me in Delft :-D |
I flew overnight from San Francisco to London, and to beat the jet lag, I stayed in a B&B near Heathrow for a night. Then I hopped the tube into London to St. Pancras Station, went through French customs in the train station, and boarded a Eurostar train to Brussels (via Paris). From Brussels, I took a local Belgian train to Ghent, and then a taxi to the hotel. Whew!
